Getting Started: Using EL Education's Digital Materials
For budgetary reasons, we will not be partnering with LearnZillion for curricular access as intended for the 2020-2021 school year. We have all materials now published from EL Education directly. This will enable us to secure the digital text access we desperately need and the print materials that will support students in a virtual learning environment.
Preview the Getting Started page on their website to familiarize yourself with how to access all teaching materials. View the screen casts linked below for a guided tour. Please note these were developed for the release of the second edition of the K-5 materials but all information follows true for 6-8. |
2020 Flex Curriculum: Supporting Virtual Implementation
EL has adapted it's curriculum for use in a virtual or hybrid learning format. This guidance will support us as we build course content, and adapt to our ever changing learning model to best serve our community.
The largest change is that we will only be implementing 3 modules. Rationale for why modules were selected over others is provided here. Recommendations and resources will be published on a rolling basis from August-November. As materials come available, I will alert you to what adjustments may need to be made to existing Canvas content. |
Reading Plus/Focused Reading
Reading Plus: A specific rostered course for students with significant reading needs that are tailored to an individual education plan or MTSS identified need. This course is in addition to regular core ELA instruction and supports increasing language acquisition and literacy.
Focused Reading: This larger class-wide intervention is tailored to various reading levels. This course is in addition to regular core ELA instruction and supports deepening or extending content knowledge and grade level reading/writing skills. This course is graded Pass/No Pass. All attempts should be made to utilize content from grade level EL curriculum to support deepening content knowledge and acquiring needed vocabulary. |
